Edwin Dun

Edwin Dun

Edwin Dun (June 19, 1848 – May 15, 1931) was a rancher from Ohio who was employed as an o-yatoi gaikokujin in Hokkaido by the Hokkaido Development Commission (Kaitakushi) and advised Japan on modernizing agricultural techniques during the Meiji modernization period. Agricultural adviser

He first came to Japan in 1875 and returned to the United States in 1883. It was during this period that he advised the Hokkaido Development Commission.

Diplomat

In 1884 he returned as a diplomat working for the U.S. Government and continued in that role until relieved of his post in 1897.

Oil company representative

After 1897 he was the Japan representative of the Standard Oil company. He died at his home in Tokyo in 1931.
