Australia 's oldest survivingair force bases. It is located within theCity of Hawkesbury in the north-western fringe ofSydney , between the towns of Windsor and Richmond.A military flying school was established at the site on
August 28 ,1916 and RAAF Base Richmond was established on30 June 1925 as the RAAF's second base. RAAF Base Richmond was an important base duringWorld War II , with many flying squadrons being formed at the base. Following the war Richmond became home to most of the RAAF'stransport aircraft and has developed into a key logistics hub for theAustralian Defence Force . The Base is home to the RAAF'sC-130 Hercules andBoeing 707 aircraft, Airlift Group (HQALG) and various units from other Groups.The site is also responsible for repainting aircraft for the Qantas Group (Qantas Airways and Jetstar).
