Antonio Abetti (June 19 1846 –February 20 1928 ) was an Italianastronomer .Born in
San Pietro di Gorizia , he earned a degree in mathematics and engineering at theUniversity of Padua . Later he became director of theOsservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri and a professor at theUniversity of Florence . In 1874 he was part of an expedition led byPietro Tacchini to observe atransit of Venus with aspectroscope . He was a member of theAccademia dei Lincei and theRoyal Astronomical Society .The Abetti crater on the
Moon is named after both Antonio and his sonGiorgio Abetti .External links
