The throckley area has been studied with respect to its
geology , especially with regard to theWhin Sill formation. (Dunham, 1981)(Makhous, 2005) The Romans exploited the geology of theWhin Sill formation by locatingHadrian's Wall atop the formation and utilising stone from the formation to construct much of the wall. (Hogan, 2007) The term "sill" refers to a tabular mass ofigneous rock which intrudes within otherwise sedimentary geological formations.Sightseeing & Scenery
