John Oponjo Benjamin (born 29 November 1952 in Segbwema, Kailahun District) is a Sierra Leonean economist and politician from the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party. He served as Sierra Leone's Minister of Finance. During that period, Benjmain helped lead Sierra Leone through the Paris Club's 100% debt cancellation program. Benjamin was the chairman of the Council of State Secretaries in 1992. He was born and raised in the town of Segbwema, Kailahun District to parents from the Mende ethnic group.
