- Enos Nuttall
Enos Nuttall was the
Anglican Primate of theChurch in the Province of the West Indies , elected such in 1893.Born in Lancashire, England,
26 January 1842 , he went toJamaica in 1862 as an unordainedmissionary of theMethodist Church . He wasordained aPriest in theAnglican Church in 1866, and wasconsecrated Bishop of Jamaica inSt. Paul's Cathedral inLondon in October 1880.The Anglican Province of the West Indies was created in 1883 and held its first Provincial Synod in Jamaica in October in that year. Bishop Nuttall played a leading role in drawing up a
Constitution for the Province. BishopWilliam Piercy Austin ofGuiana was elected the first Primate. Bishop Nuttall succeeded Bishop Austin as Primate in 1893.His title was changed from Primate to Archbishop in 1897.
Archbishop Nuttall died on
31 May 1916 .References
