- Rudolph T. Randa
Rudolph T. Randa (1940) is currently a federal judge for the
United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin .Randa earned a bachelor's degree from
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and attendedUniversity of Wisconsin Law School with GovernorTommy G. Thompson . He was appointed by the first President Bush and is a member of the conservative Federalist Society.Recently, Randa has received media attention for sentencing
Georgia Thompson to prison without bail. Four months later, the charges were thrown out after 20 minutes of discussion at an appeal and she was order to be "immediately released". Because of the posture of the case, it is clear that the Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit had directly found fault with Randa's decision to allow the case to go to a jury and that Randa had failed to properly dismiss the case under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. Accordingly, the three judge appellate panel ordered Randa to immediately issue an order freeing Thompson.cite news | url=http://www.wiscnews.com/pdr/news/128622 | title=Baldwin calls on Congress to look into Thompson case | publisher=Portage Daily Register | date=2007 | first=Federick last=Frommer | accessdate = 2007-04-18] There are calls for investigation ofUnited States Attorney Steve Biskupic in conjunction with current inquiries about political influence with the United States Attorney's Office, while many have raised the issue whether Randa's political ties led him to imprison Georgia Thompson without cause.References
