Kishlak

Kishlak (qishlaq, qishloq, qishlak) is a rural settlement of semi-nomadis Turkic peoples of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan), in Afghanistan, and in other places. The meaning of the term is "wintering place" ("kışlak") in Turkic languages. [ [http://www.bookrags.com/research/kishlak-ema-03/ "Kishlak"] , "Encyclopedia of Central Asia"]

Traditionally a clay/mud fence ("dewal", "duval") surrounds a kishlak.

The term may be seen in the toponyms, such as Afgan-Kishlak (Uzbekistan), Yangi-Kishlak (Turkmenistan), Qışlaq (Azerbaijan).
