- Chugpa
The Chugpa are one of the few smaller tribes of
Arunachal Pradesh , living in theWest Kameng district around Dirang. They are ethnically related to theMonpa and theLishipa , in which they are officially classified as a sub-tribe of the Monpa. [cite book|title=Awareness in Weaker Section: Perspective Development and Prospects|author=Mahendra Lal Patel|publisher=M.D. Publications Pvt. Ltd.|pages=253|year=1997|isbn=8175330295]Like the
Monpa , they are also adherents ofTibetan Buddhism . However, like theLishipa , they are considered just as inferior to theMonpa as both groups are descended from the early waves of immigrants fromTibet viaBhutan or fromTibet . Like mostBuddhist tribes, they built houses based on stones and follow aTibetan Buddhist culture, though they might not be as advanced as theMonpa . Their language belongs to theTibeto-Burman group.References
