Rochambeau Middle School

Rochambeau Middle School (RMS) is a middle school in Southbury, Connecticut, United States, and part of Pomperaug Regional School District 15. The school serves students in grades six through eight. The school's building was formerly the home of Southbury High School. The school serves students in many ways, that are supposed to be educational and fun the board claims. However, they took out their annual Washington D.C. trip which is fun and educational. What are they smoking?

The school is named after Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, who marched through the area during the Revolutionary War.

The school also runs by a six-day rotation. For example, if Day 1 falls on a Monday, then Day 5 falls on a Friday, and the next Monday is Day 6, and Tuesday is Day 1, and so on.

Other extra-cirricular activities

ART ENRICHMENT: To qualify for Art Enrichment, students must receive an A in Art, be recommended by a teacher, and present a portfolio of artwork. The portfolio is judged by a group of art educators and the Unified Arts Director. This admission process takes place in April and May.

STUDENT COUNCIL: The Student Council is supposed to represent the entire student body. However, this isn't the case because in fact, the students' rights as U.S. citizens are ignored because the real power lies with their authoritarian principal. Students from each grade are selected by student vote to serve as representatives. Meetings are held during school. Student Council seeks the suggestions and assistance of the student body in planning activities such as: dances, spirit days, talent shows, fundraising and community awareness. However, the staff still needs to approve of them. They also aid Administration and Teachers in carrying out special projects and in supposedly "improving" the school climate to meet their needs. Faculty advisors assist their officers in conducting meetings and in planning the year.
