Shrikar Madiraju; born 17 July, 1975 in Hyderabad, is a film director living in the US. Shrikar was raised in Vizag, in Andhra Pradesh and has an MBA from the Maharishi University of Management, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Shrikar developed an interest in film making at an early age of 12, while watching his parents enact short plays at local social and community clubs.

Debut

In 2003, Shrikar directed his first short film "Underground", which was selected for the 2004 New York International Independent Film Festival. The film tackles the situation of immigrants flooding Washington, DC, in 1920, increasing the costs of land much to the dismay of Washington DC’s elite. At times like this, unimaginable things happen in the film such as immigrants were dropping dead like flies and the rumor was that a vampire was on the lose killing these poor victims.

First Feature Film

In 2004, Shrikar directed his first feature film "The DownRising". Based on psychological research and inspired by true events, the film journeys through the inner-workings of a militant terrorist cell operating in Washington, DC.

Writing and theatre

In 2003, Shrikar wrote "Biryani and Irani chai" a collection of nine short stories, inspired by the historical city of Hyderabad, India. In 2003, he also wrote "Cafe Confuxion", a story for an animation film in which, a 60 year old American tourist from Alabama visits a café in Paris, with his wife and two children, after a tiring day of touring the city. Shrikar conducted acting classes and directed plays for the South Asian Theatre Group (STAGE) based in the Washington area.

Current

Shrikar participated in the making of The Last Lear, directed by Mr. Rituparno Ghosh, starring Amitabh Bachan. Shrikar is currently working on a film called "G14", which contrasts the values of a religious family with infamous gang members. Shrikar has written and made all his movies in Washington, DC, and lives in the district as well.
