National Children's Orchestra

The National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO-GB) is a children's orchestra, established in 1978 by Vivienne Price.

The NCO-GB has five age-banded orchestras, for children between the ages of 7 and 13 years. It draws together each year almost 500 talented musicians, divided into the five age banded orchestras, from all over the UK. These orchestras are Training, U11's, U12's, U13's and Main Orchestra. The NCO gives talented children the chance to play in a full symphony orchestra in concert halls across the country. The current director of music is Roger Clarkson.

Tours

The Main Orchstra of 2006 were invited to play in the Festival of Music in Beijing, and took almost the whole orchestra and staff to China. This year, The Main Orchestra of 2008 were invited by Lady Susanna Walton (widow of Sir William Walton) to play in La Mortella on the island of Ischia. They also played in the Santa Maria Sopra Minerva Basilica in Rome. Both DVD's are available form the website, www.nco.org.uk.

Encore

The children must 'retire' at the age of 14, they constantly asked if they were allowed just 1 more year. Finally, Encore was formed. This is a separate organisation to NCO, but any child from Main Orchestra can join Encore and carry on the NCO experience, but with teenagers, instead of children
