- Varivode
Varivode (Вариводе in Serbian) is a village in the
Bukovica region ofCroatia , in the municipality ofKistanje . Prior to theYugoslav Wars of 1991-1995 the village was a part of the municipality ofKnin , and according to the census of 1991, it had a population of 477 people, all of them ethnicSerbs . During the war, Varivode and the surrounding area were incorporated intoRepublika Srpska Krajina .In August 1995, men in Croatian military uniforms and armed civilians allegedly killed 12 elderly Serb civilians, some of them disabled, who had stayed in their homes on the eve of the liberation of self-proclaimed Krajina, and burned the village to the ground.
