Stephen of Aumale [Étienne d'Aumale] (before 1070 – 1127) was
Count of Aumale from 1082 to 1127.He was son of
Eudes de Blois ,Count of Troyes andCount of Meaux , andAdelaide of Normandy , countess of Aumale, and sister ofWilliam the Conqueror . Stephen probably succeeded his mother as Count in 1082/4.In the rebellion of 1095 against
William Rufus , the object of the rebels was to place Stephen on the English throne. The leaders wereRobert de Mowbray andGuillaume III of Eu ,Count of Eu . Stephen's father was imprisoned in 1096 for complicity.In 1096 Stephen joined the
First Crusade , withRobert Curthose . In 1102 he became lord ofHolderness ,Yorkshire , England.In 1118, when
William Clito rebelled againstHenry I of England , Stephen supported him, withBaldwin VII of Flanders .Family
He married Hawise, daughter of
Ralph, seigneur de Mortimer , and Mélisende. Their children were :*
