William Frederick Halsey (b.
April 11 ,1853 – d.June 11 ,1920 ) was a United States naval officer. He rose to the rank of Captain and was the father of Fleet AdmiralWilliam F. Halsey, Jr. Halsey was born in New York,
New York onApril 11 ,1853 . He was appointed to theUnited States Naval Academy in 1869 and graduated in 1872. Halsey married Anne Masters Brewster and onOctober 30 ,1882 , his son,William F. Halsey, Jr. was born in Elizabeth,New Jersey .As a lieutenant, Halsey was stationed on the USS "New York" and assumed command of the USS "Newark" in May 1898.
He is buried in
Arlington National Cemetery . His wife Anne, who died onMay 25 ,1947 is buried with him, and his son, who died onAugust 16 ,1959 is buried beside him.Dates of Rank
