Alex Briley (born Alexander Briley,
12 April 1951 , inHarlem , New York) performed the "G.I." role in thedisco era music group,Village People .Briley was raised in
Harlem and laterMount Vernon, New York . A minister's son, he sang in church from an early age and studied voice at theUniversity of Hartford . Briley performed withjazz flautist Bobbi Humphrey and was featured in the off-Broadway shows "Music Magic" and Althol Fugard's drama "A Lesson From Aloe".Briley was introduced to producer/
composer Jacques Morali by Village People memberVictor Willis . Briley arranged most of the vocals andharmonies used by Village People. He originally performed injeans and at-shirt but he took the role of a soldier for the album "Cruisin' " in 1978 and when the group recorded "In The Navy " in 1979 he appeared as a sailor.In 2004 he was reportedly living in
Westchester, New York and was a member of the Board of Directors ofSixuvus Ltd. (the Village People corporation).
