next_no = Track 13"The Silent Sun" (1968) is the premiere single by English rock band Genesis. It was written by Tony Banks and
Peter Gabriel at a time when the band's potential producer,Jonathan King , was starting to lose interest. Knowing that King was a fan of theBee Gees , Banks and Gabriel wrote the song specifically to recapture his attention. It worked. The band was signed and the song was released as a single on February 22, 1968, and they would soon begin work on their debut album, "From Genesis to Revelation .""The Silent Sun" is a fusion of folk rock and pop rock. The heavy use of orchestral strings and lightweight romantic lyrics make this song a far cry from the progressive music that would follow on Genesis' next album, "Trespass." The song, like most of "From Genesis to Revelation", has been mostly ignored by the band, as it has not appeared on any Genesis compilation or live album.
