Wroughton , nearSwindon ,Wiltshire ,England is part of theNational Museum of Science and Industry . The main Science Museum based inLondon is a majortourist attraction .Origin
The Science Museum took ownership of the 545-acre former
RAF Wroughton airfield in1979 , to be used as a storage facility for the largest objects of the National Museum of Science and Industry. A collection of approximately 20,000 objects are currently kept in six of the hangers, from the first hovercraft to MRI scanners, and computers to (de-activated) nuclear missiles. The Science Museum Swindon is currently a museum store serving the conservation, object storage, and transportation needs of many museums, and therefore is not open to the public except during occasional Open Days and on monthly pre-booked guided tours during the summer. However, it has plans for an ambitious project called "Inspired" which will open up all of the Science Museum's hidden treasures to the public for the very first time. Unfortunately the plans for "Inspired" took a blow when the Museum did not win lottery money for the project in November 2007.External links
