London Buses route 98 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to Metroline.

History

Route 98 was introduced on 18 July 1992 to replace route 8 between Willesden "Bus Garage" and Oxford Circus.

The 98 has always been operated by Metroline, based at the Willesden garage. Initially using Routemasters on Mondays to Saturdays in the daytime and Dennis Darts, Metrobuses and Leyland Titans Sundays and late evenings.

In early 2004, the 98 was one of the many routes in London that were converted from Routemasters to low floor vehicles [although like the 94 it still used occasional metrobuses during this time] . Route 98 and fellow Metroline route 6 were given new low-floor Volvo B7TL 10m / Plaxton Presidents.

The 98 also has night service N98 that follows the route from Holborn to Willesden and continues via Kingsbury, Queensbury and Neasden to Stanmore Station. In early 2005 Route 98 which was one of the two route running legendary London Buses was replaced by current Modern Buses. In this process many conductors lost the job due redundancy created by new buses which donot need conductors.
