The company was founded on 1 February 2006.

As of 7 January 2008, it is owned by All Nippon Airways (51.7%), Japan Post (33.3%), primarily a land transporter Nippon Express (10.0%) and shipping Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (5.0%).

As of February 2008, AJV flies from Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Kansai), Nagoya (Centrair) to Seoul (Incheon) but no longer flies trans-Pacific.
