Ahmir is an up and coming male R&B group based in Boston, MA. The group is currently unsigned to any record label. The members of Ahmir consist of "Sing-Sing" (from Philadelphia, PA), "Big Mike" from (Harlem, NY), "Mr. Jones" (from Boston, MA) and "KC" (from Rochester, NY). Several years ago, Mr. Jones and Big Mike formed a friendship in Boston based on mutual respect for one another's talents. Big Mike made his way to Boston by attending Boston University. Michael Cheung, who is the current manager for Ahmir, had also developed a friendship with Mr. Jones while attending Boston University. Before long Mr. Jones, Big Mike and Michael Cheung each shared a vision of developing a male R&B group. Shortly thereafter, Michael Cheung brought in KC through auditions and Sing-Sing was scouted by Big Mike at a show at Berklee College of Music where he was a student.

Biography

Ahmir gained in popularity in 2006 with their hit single, "Welcome To My Party." Although being an unsigned group, the single was announced as being the #19 top selling R&B Hip Hop Single of 2006 on Billboard's year-end chart. In addition, the track was deemed eligible for a 2007 Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B Track. Billboard magazine featured them in an article entitled "They're Next" as the group won the "We Hear The Future" Showcase at the annual Billboard R&B Hip Hop Conference in Atlanta. Ahmir's notoriety also grew with their song entitled "The Wedding Song". "The Wedding Song" circulated quickly via Internet websites such as Myspace and a music video for the song on YouTube. Both songs were included on the group's debut album, "The Gift" which was released independently on April 11, 2007. "The Gift" was re-released on February 19, 2008 with 3 new tracks. This included the single "Angel", "No Place Like Home", and an acapella version of "No Place Like Home". "No Place Like Home" garnered honors as a finalist for the International Songwriting Competition and winner for the R&B Category of the USA Songwriting Competition.

Several newspapers in their home base of Boston have covered the success of Ahmir including: The Boston Globe - "Ahmir - Out of Nowhere, They've Topped Topped the Charts" April 11, 2007, "They've Got Talent" July 16, 2007; The Boston Herald - "The Perfect Gift" July 14, 2007; and the Boston Metro - "Ahmir's Got Talent" July 16, 2007.

The magazine VIBE also featured Ahmir in their September 2007 issue as an Artist of the Month feature with BlackPlanet.com.

Ahmir appeared on the BET show 106 & Park on February 13, 2008 , where they won the weekly Wild-Out Wednesday competition with 45% of national audience online voting.

On June 26, 2007, Ahmir performed on the NBC TV Series America's Got Talent. They made it to the Top 35 round in Las Vegas. On the show, they mentioned that the word "Ahmir" is Arabic for "prince".

Other TV performances include the New England Cable News (NECN) Morning Show and 'Backstage with Barry Nolan' on Comcast CN8.

Ahmir has been seen opening for major recording artists such as John Legend, Busta Rhymes, 112, Jagged Edge & Boyz II Men and have been the recipient of awards for being "Best R&B Group" from the New England Urban Music Awards in Boston and the Underground Music Awards in New York City.

Two international tours have increased Ahmir's fanbase. The tours were entitled "The Welcome To My Party Tour" and "Comeback Tour" which included cities such as Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Linz, and Dusseldorf.
