The 1985

The 1985

The 1985 was a noise rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which existed from 1996 to 2000. It had a loud, sharp, and angular sound which came through best in their energetic and raucous live performances. They released two LPs, "Nerve Eighty" on Progeria Records, and "Obscured by Pink Clouds" on [http://www.carbonrecords.com/ Carbon Records] . Their final release was a split 12-inch single performed along with the Dutch group, Solex.

The 1985 was often credited with creating a sound (along with Providence’s Arab on Radar, with whom they often toured) that used the metallic guitars and danceable rhythms of such post-punk groups as the Gang of Four and Public Image Ltd., combining them with a nervy immediacy and sexually-charged lyrics and attitude, a style which has endured ever since.

Its members have gone on to form [http://myspace.com/microwaves (((microwaves)))] , [http://www.murderswan.com Murder Swan] , and the instrumental horror-prog group, Zombi.
