London Borough of Brent , north westLondon . Dominated by the Ealing Road, which is the backbone of the area, it contains two schools, a conferencing facility andAlperton tube station at the southern end of Ealing Road. The north end of Ealing Road terminates at Wembley High Road. TheGrand Union Canal runs through the heart of Alperton. Alperton is a part of Wembley.Ealing Road is the heart of Alperton, comprising of Indian and Pakistani restaurants as well as general goods outdoor stalls, similar to those at the Sunday Market. Traditional fruit and veg outlets also operate from Ealing road where the locals come to buy exotic fruit and veg not normally available in supermarkets all year round.
Alperton is also the home of many "curry pubs" started by early immigrants from the east in the 1990s. Many other successful businesses were birthed from Alperton such as
Chicken Cottage and Dosa Corner.Chicken Cottage started as a small chicken shop which expanded and eventually opened branches all over the UK.If Ealing Road is the heart of Alperton then the community is the soul. Alperton's community from the 70s through to early 2000s was predominantly of Asian ethnicity. It was a buzzing hub of eastern tradition and values. Nowadays the traditions and values have diluted and intertwined with values and traditions of British culture.
Alperton today has probably one of the most diverse communities in the UK. In present day people of African, Indian, Polish, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lanken or Caribbean backgrounds all enjoy life together in Alperton.
One particular event which takes place on Ealing Road is the
Divali parade. TheDivali parade is a parade similar toCarnival , which takes place in West London. Many celebrities in the past, such asMichael Jackson andJackie Chan , have come to the parade to celebrate and perform the closing speech before the fireworks display.Alperton does however have a darker side as well. Alperton is a hotspot for sex and drug trafficking, with brothels and drug dens by the plenty. Another problem which sprung up in the 90s was teennage gang culture. Teenagers as young as 14 have been involved in stabbings and shootings. Alperton has lost many of its children to this awful craze.
Older teenage gangs such as the Wembley Boyz, Bad Boy 4life Alex Crew of da scarle road appreciation mandem boyz and gyals, KV crew and the Alley Man Dem have slowly disbanded over the years leaving behind the idea for the younger generations to perform the same acts of violence and crime. The teenagers of today now seem to be emulating their American cousins by introducing more firearms and segregation by territory.
Alperton is also home to Wembley First Eleven Cricket captain, Howard Chiu.
