BSA Supersport Air Rifle

BSA Supersport Air Rifle

The BSA Supersport is an air rifle produced by the Birmingham Small Arms Company. It is essentially the same rifle as the Lightning, the only difference being that the Lightning has the BSA Volumetric Silencer fitted. It is made in two calibres, 0.177" (4.5mm) and 0.22" (5.5mm). It comes with simple post and notch plastic sights.

----The mechanics of the Supersport are very simple, a spring and piston is compressed by pulling the barrel through about 110º and then the pellet is loaded directly into the barrel. The barrel is returned to the rest position and locks into places with a detent lock, the rifle is then ready to fire.
The Supersport was first introduced in 1986 [ [http://www.bsaguns.co.uk/?ID=18 BSA Chronology] ] and has been in production for 21 years.

There are two versions, the Mk2 version differing in that it has three cocking links, unlike the older two links, and there is now an external spring guide.
The stock is beech, simple yet functional, and is adorned with a padded recoil pad. The trigger is a plastic blade (with a small metal insert), with adjustable pressure, and is single stage only. The only plastic parts on the gun are the trigger and sights.

The Supersport, being a spring gun suffers from recoil, and this is a big downside to this gun. It has to be gripped correctly, with a very light hold in order to get the best accuracy out of it. Range is limited to about 40m at best, with 25-30m being the maximum hunting range.
Power is 16J (12ft/lb), the UK legal limit for non FAC airguns.
