First Lieutenant Aiden Ford (born 1979)cite episode |title=Childhood's End |episodelink=Childhood's End (Stargate Atlantis) |series=Stargate Atlantis |serieslink=Stargate Atlantis] is a USMC officer played by Rainbow Sun Francks on television show "Stargate Atlantis". Ford was a regular in season 1, but became a recurring guest in season 2. After the end of season 1, the series producers, and the actor himself, felt that Ford had not worked as intended and was highly underused as a result. Unwilling to write him out, the writers came up with an idea to make the character more important, but that downgraded him to recurring. [cite book

He is enthusiastic and energetic, always willing to help someone in need. Ford serves as the military second-in-command for Major John Sheppard. He was already serving in the SGC before Atlantis and is an expert in explosives and weapons.

eason 1

In "Rising", Ford is first seen in the Antarctica outpost, relaying information to Dr. Weir. Once in Atlantis, he was part of the expedition to Athos. He was guarding the Stargate when the Wraith appeared. When they went back to the Stargate, Sheppard ordered him to memorize the symbols the Wraith dialed. He was later part of the rescue mission, and infiltrated the Wraith hiveship with Sheppard. He set up the explosives and helped the captured Earth personnel blow up their cell door. He later saved Sheppard from the female Wraith keeper.

In one particular episode in season 1, an Athosian boy named Jinto accidentally unleashed an energy being (captured by the Ancients on their research on ascension). While tracking down the energy being, Ford was severely burned when the entity mauled him.

When his team's Puddle Jumper was stuck in an active Stargate, with a bug attached to Major Sheppard's neck, he had to use a defibrillator to stop Sheppard's heart so they could remove the bug. Afterwards, when it became obvious their only choice to get enough forward momentum to get through the gate was to blow the rear hatch, he pushed McKay into the event horizon and blew the hatch with the manual control himself ("Thirty-Eight Minutes").

During The Storm, he, Carson Beckett and Teyla became trapped in the mainland waiting for some Athosian hunters. He wanted to leave but Beckett did not feel he could pilot with such strong winds and, since Beckett was the pilot, they stayed. Once they went back to Atlantis, they tried to help Major Sheppard take the city back from the Genii that had invaded it ("The Storm/The Eye").

He went with Dr. McKay and Dr. Zelenka (among others) to check uninhabited parts of the city for structural damage after the storm. They forced him to play Prime/Not Prime, but he always got it wrong. Soon after, several members of the expedition started falling dead and they found out a nanovirus was loose. When they discover the nanovirus does not work in people with the ATA gene, he asks Dr. Beckett for it, but he's told the treatment would take too long, if it were successful ("Hot Zone").

When everybody was asked to record a personal message to send to their loved ones on Earth, Elizabeth assigned him the task of recording. He recorded his own for his grandparents, who seem to be his only family ("Letters from Pegasus").

eason 2

During the Wraith attack on Atlantis ("The Siege, Part 3"), Ford was being fed upon by a Wraith when a grenade went off near them. Both were blown off the catwalk and into the ocean. Nearly an hour later, after the hive-ships were destroyed and the immediate threat from the Wraith was gone, Zelenka (at Sheppard's urging) expanded the range of the city's Life Signs detector to include the surrounding ocean and located Ford. The Daedalus's transporters beamed the unconscious Ford (with Wraith still attached) into the infirmary.

A Wraith injects its victim with an enzyme that strengthens it ("Poisoning the Well"); otherwise, the victim would die immediately. The grenade-induced shock to the feeding Wraith caused a large amount of this enzyme to enter Ford's system, allowing him to survive face-down in the water for an hour. However, the prolonged exposure caused Ford's body to become addicted to the enzyme, and he underwent both mental and physical changes, becoming more aggressive and developing a solid black left eye and facial creases and markings.

Ford, thinking the citizens of Atlantis were afraid of him and his changes, stole a jumper and fled the city. ("The Siege, Part 3")

Ford begins wandering the Pegasus Stargate network, killing Wraiths and harvesting the enzyme from them. The enzyme gives Ford super-human strength (he's able to lift Dr. Beckett with one arm, is unaffected by being shot in the arm, and is apparently immune to Wraith stunners) but contributes to his increasing mental instability.

Although Ford proves adept at killing Wraith, he seems evenly matched against Ronon Dex ("Runner"). Nonetheless "Super Ford" is still quite formidable, considering the fact that Dex could take out several of Sheppard's best men without much apparent effort.

Eventually, Sheppard caught up with Ford and Ford tried to "escape" by jumping into the culling beam of a Wraith dart, after which he was presumed dead. However, because the Wraith-enzyme makes Ford immune to their stunning technology, the instant he was rematerialized on board a Wraith-hive ship (which had landed on a planet), he woke up and overpowered his captors. Ford then promptly escaped the Hive-ship (the Wraith are not used to having intruders, so internal security is very light aboard their ships) and left through a stargate to a friendly gate address. Ford traded in one of his weapons in exchange for room and board at a local tavern, and while there he told many people about the "benefits" of the Wraith-enzyme and what it had enabled him to do. Many wanted to try it for themselves after hearing this, and Ford eventually built up a small strike force of young men taking the Wraith-enzyme who followed him to a new off-world base. From there, Ford led them on raids to kill more Wraith for their enzyme-glands, but eventually captured several Wraith soldiers and chained them up in their base to maintain a steady supply. They carried out various hit and run strikes on the Wraith, as well as attacking several Genii outposts to steal computers and equipment.

Eventually, Ford kidnapped Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, and Ronon while they were on a mission and brought them back to his base. Ford had clearly been further elevated in his own mind with delusions of grandeur, and planned to have the team help him destroy an entire Wraith Hive-ship by sneaking them all aboard in a captured Dart (to be piloted by Sheppard) and then planting C-4 explosives in the hangar bays to cause secondary explosions. Ford's mental state and morals had clearly degenerated by this time: he laced food he provided for the team with the Wraith-enzyme so they could "see for themselves" how great the addictive drug's performance enhancements were, though he did not give it to Sheppard so John could impartially "serve as a witness" to how great Ford's plan was. When the team found out, Ford had his men start forcibly doping them up with Wraith-enzyme.

Ford's plan was daring, but not very well thought out. However, in his drug-induced mental state he refused to believe this. When the assault on the Hive-ship failed miserably (there was an autopilot sequence on the Dart that overrode its controls that Ford did not know about), Ford, his men, and the team were all imprisoned in a cell on the Hive-ship. However, Ford's sense of ego and self-superiority were so heightened by the addictive drug that he refused to accept any blame, irrationally blaming Sheppard for any faults in Ford's own plans.

Ford becomes separated from Sheppard and the rest of the group after the withdrawal from the enzyme makes him ill, but somehow breaks away to get weapons and more enzyme. After helping him escape, Ford stayed behind to fight the Wraith so that Sheppard could rescue the others. Sheppard escapes from the ship with Ronon and Teyla, but is forced to leave without Ford. The hive ship explodes with Ford presumably on board, although Sheppard notes that Ford is resourceful and may have escaped.

Although Sheppard said in the end of the episode that it was probably not the last they've seen of Ford, he was not seen again in the last nine episodes of season two, and no indication has been made as to whether or not he will return in the future. When asked if Ford may return in the future or be given a final ending, Joe Mallozzi responded, "I think being on an exploding hive ship is a definite ending."

eason 5

In the opening episode of season five, Sheppard has a dream in which he can't remember rescuing Teyla from Michael's hive ship. Aiden suddenly appears in this dream saying, "You don't remember rescuing her because you didn't. Just like you never rescued me." This dream influences Sheppard's decision to rescue Teyla saying, "I have had a chance to rescue a team mate before, and it slipped through my hands. I am not letting that happen again," showing that Sheppard has taken responsibility for Ford's demise. In an atlantis movie he returns and trys to take over Atlantis (alone), he shoots Woolsey twice in the left leg (making him unconscious-with a P90, he shoots Ronon 8 times with a stunner, fires on 9mm bullet into Teyla's chest and fires 4 stunner blasts at him, ties up Sheppard, stuns Lorne's team and sends them to M7G-667. McKay then comes up with a stunner and shoots him twice, which knocks him down, when he gets back up McKay fires a 9mm into his chest 3 times, he falls down. Ford says "McKay, I'm sorry" and commits sucide (by firing a 9mm into his head.
