The Pousada da Ria, also known as the Pousada of Murtosa is situated in the locality of Torreira near Murtosa, in the municipality of Aveiro, and belongs to the Pousadas of Portugal network, having being classified as a Pousada of Nature.

The Pousada

The Pousada is located in the istmus that connects Murtosa to the beaches of São Jacinto, inside a protected natural reserve of unique beauty. All of the Pousada's 20 rooms (including 2 suites) have views of the Ria de Aveiro, where guests can observe the the traditional work of the Moliceiros and the fishing at the Ria. The characteristics of the Ria also allow it to be a prime spot for boat trips and water sports.

The Pousada, as well as the regions, are well known for its typical regional food.

Location

The parish of Torreira has an interesting number of architectonic buildings and cultural assets, including the Chapel of São Paio, the local Church and the São Jacinto Natural Reserve.

The Chapel of São Paio, in its third version because the previous two collapsed due to unstable terrain, dates from 1878, having been remodeled in 1995. You can see altarpieces dating from the 18th century and sculptures from the 16th and 18th centuries.

The São Jacinto Natural Reserve, created by Decree Law in 1979 with the aim of preserving the sand dunes and it's rich fauna and flora. It's currently considered one of the best protected reserves in Europe.

The Natural Reserve has an area of convert|1645|acre|km2|0.
