Bryan Jenkins has more than 30 years experience in
environmental planning and management, including 20 years in theprivate sector as a consultingengineer and environmental planner. Jenkins was Director of Environment,Economics and Planning for "Kinhill Engineers" inAdelaide , from 1989 to 1994. His direct project involvement included work for the "Steel Authority of India", theAustralian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation ,water andwastewater treatment plants inChina , and the third runway atSydney Airport .Jenkins left the private sector in 1994 and spent seven years as chief executive of the "Western Australia Department of Environmental Protection". Here he was involved in the preparation of an
Air Quality Management Plan for Perth, involving 80 stakeholder groups and coordination of programmes across 14 different agencies. He also led the development of an Environmental Protection Policy and Environmental Management Plan forCockburn Sound ,Western Australia 's most polluted marine water body. He left there to become director of Murdoch Environment, the environmental consulting and education unit atMurdoch University in Perth,Western Australia , before being appointed CEO ofCanterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) in June 2003.
