The
1979 French Grand Prix was aFormula One race held on1 July 1979 at Dijon.It marked the first victory of a turbocharged car in Formula One. The race is also remembered for one of the fiercest battles for second place, between Ferrari driver
Gilles Villeneuve and Renault driverRené Arnoux , on several occasions during the final laps they touched wheels and switched positions. The fight between the drivers was hard, but also fair and is fondly remembered by F1-fans all over the world. In addition, it is notable that the French race was won by a French driver (Jabouille), driving a French car (Renault), on French tyres (Michelin), powered on French fuel (Elf) and powered by a French engine (Renault).Classification
