Biastophilia

Biastophilia

Biastophilia (from Greek "biastes", "rape" + "-philia") and its Latin language-derived counterpart, raptophilia (from Latin "rapere", "to seize"), also paraphilic rape, refer to a paraphilia in which sexual arousal is dependent on, or is responsive to, the act of assaulting an unconsenting person, especially a stranger.cite book |last= Corsini |first= Raymond J. |title= The Dictionary of Psychology |publisher= Brunner-Routledge |location= Philadelphia |year= 2002 |pages= "p". 109 |isbn= 1583913289 |oclc= 48932974] cite book |last= Flora |first= Rudy |title= How to Work with Sex Offenders: A Handbook for Criminal Justice, Human Service, and Mental Health Professionals |pages= "p". 91 |publisher= Haworth Clinical Practice Press |location= New York |year= 2001 |isbn= 0789014998 |oclc= 45668958]

Some dictionaries consider the terms synonymous, [Eric W. Hickey, "Encyclopedia of Murder & Violent Crime", ISBN 076192437X (2003) [http://books.google.com/books?id=dDOW75aJMR8C&pg=PA347&dq=biastophilia&sig=_P67glVzlrLmfR5MHnq_4TxLoMg p. 347] ] while others distinguish raptophilia as the paraphilia in which sexual arousal is responsive to actually raping the victim.cite book |last= Holmes |first= Ronald M. |title= Sex Crimes: Patterns and Behavior |publisher= Sage Publications |location= Thousand Oaks |isbn= 0761924175 |oclc= 48883594 |pages= "p". 247]

The source of the arousal in these paraphilias is the terrified resistance to the assault, [Raymond J. Corsini "The Dictionary of Psychology", ISBN 158391028X (1999) [http://books.google.com/books?id=cB5UOSsIN74C&pg=PA692&dq=raptophilia&sig=Jjn-1S0bg-HW6YMvjAIxXywAkHw p. 692] ] and in this respect it is considered to be a form of sexual sadism.Ronald Blackburn, "The Psychology of Criminal Conduct: Theory, Research and Practice" (1993)ISBN 0471912956, [http://books.google.com/books?id=sH1HAAAAMAAJ&q=raptophilia&dq=raptophilia&lr=&pgis=1 p. 87] ]

Biastophilia is accepted as potentially lethal, other such paraphilias including, but not being limited to asphyxiophilia, autassassinophilia, hybristophilia, kleptophilia and chremastistophilia [Gordon, Jr., Wilbert Anthony and James E. Elias. 2005. "Potentially Lethal Modes of Sexual Expression". "Paper presented at the 2005 Western Region Annual Conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality".] .
