Simandou is the site of a large iron ore deposit in southeastern flagicon|Guinea

Monts du Toura .It is located east of Banankoro and to the west of Kerouane.
Transport
Proposals are under way in 2007 to build a heavy duty
standard gauge railway anddeepwater port to permit the export of large tonnages of iron ore.Simandou is very close - 30km - to the Liberian border, and an existing albeit possibly defunct IIRC
standard gauge railway to the port ofBuchanan . A heavy duty railway wholly withinGuinea n territory would be 700km long.Simandou is near
Diéké .The mining company concerned is
