Iyo Railway

The nihongo|Iyo Railway|伊予鉄道|Iyo Tetsudō is a transportation company in Matsuyama, Japan. The company or its lines are commonly known as nihongo|Iyotetsu|伊予鉄. The private company operates railway, tram, and bus lines, and is a core company of Iyotetsu Group, which also operates other business such as department stores and travel agencies. The company was founded in September 14, 1887, and its railway line, the first one in Shikoku, was opened in October 28, 1888. From August 2005, its lines introduced the IC e-card, a smart card ticketing system.

Takahama Line and Ōtemachi Line are known to have one of the few surviving level junctions crossing each other.

**Honmachi Line (本町線): Nishi-Horibata — Honmachi-Rokuchōme
**Ōtemachi Line (大手町線): Nishi-Horibata — Matsuyama-Ekimae — Komachi
**Hanazono Line (花園線): Matsuyamashi-Ekimae — Minami-Horibata

Bus Lines

The company operates highway buses linking Matsuyama and the major cities of Japan, including Tokyo, Ōsaka, Fukuyama, Takamatsu, Tokushima, Kōchi and others. It also operates a local network in and around the city.

Iyotetsu in popular culture

*Yakyūken: The game nowadays known as a strip rock-paper-scissors, was originally a rock-paper-scissors variation with just a dance, without any striptease. It was a party stunt by Iyotetsu Baseball Club, invented in 1924.
*"Botchan", a 1906 novel by Natsume Sōseki, depcits a life in Matsuyama. The current nihongo|Botchan Train|坊っちゃん列車|Botchan Ressha, operated from 2001, reproduces the atmosphere at the time.
*Baishinji Station of Takahama Line appeared in the last episode of "Tokyo Love Story", a 1991 TV dorama based on a same-titled manga. Rika Akana, the main heroine, knotted a handkerchief to the station's fence. Many fans have done the same thing in the station, even to this date.
