census GR|2 of 2000, there were 29,210 people, 10,935 households, and 7,960 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 70 people per square mile (27/km²). There were 11,622 housing units at an average density of 28 per square mile (11/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.33% White, 0.58% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 2.56% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 5.40% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 94.3% spoke English, 3.7% Spanish and 1.7% German as their first language.There were 10,935 households out of which 35.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.10% were married couples living together, 8.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% were non-families. 23.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.40% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the county the population was spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 22.10% from 45 to 64, and 14.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $42,657, and the median income for a family was $49,881. Males had a median income of $35,901 versus $24,076 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $18,667. About 5.30% of families and 7.00% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 9.90% of those under age 18 and 4.20% of those age 65 or over.Government
