Hartland Institute

Hartland Institute

The Hartland Institute, officially the Hartland Institute of Health and Education, is an independent educational organization associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church."Hartland Institute of Health and Education" in "Historical Dictionary of Seventh-day Adventists" by Gary Land, p.124] It is an expression of "historic" Adventism, the very conservative wing of the Adventist church. It is located in Rapidan, Virginia.

It consists of a "Christian missionary college" which is unaccredited, a natural health center, a K-12 school, and a printing press. Its "wellness centre" offers natural healing techniques and hydrotherapy. Its more rigorous training program provides students with an education centered around the Bible and the counsels of Ellen White to the Adventist church. It is also the home of the traveling singing group The Three Angels' Chorale, a traveling singing group comprised of students of the college that practices, as they put it, "the exaltation of the Lord through harmonies... without the infection of worldliness."Fact|date=July 2007

The Hartland Institute is associated with the Australian Standish brothers Russell and Colin, brothers who have have written a large number of books together over many decades, and who are prominent promoters of historic Adventism.

History

Hartland opened in 1983, with Hartland Publications established in 1984. [ [http://hartland.edu/cms/hp/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=2 Hartland Publications – Our Mission] ] It has become increasingly critical of the Adventist church for its claimed departure from past beliefs and practices. According to Gary Land, "by the end of the 20th century the institute was largely estranged from the denominational leadership." In 2000 the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists published a [http://www.adventistreview.org/2000-1538/hope-international.html report] on Hartland and other groups (see #External links).
