Houghton High School is a high school located in Houghton, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. Enrollment is around 520 students in Grades 9 through 12, with a 17/1 student to teacher ratio. As of 2002, it was the 12th best public high school in the state of Michigan. [Cite web

accessdate = 2007-08-30] A variety of courses are offered, including four foreign languages, a dual enrollment program with Michigan Technological University that allows advanced options in computer technology and mathematics, as well as four AP classes.

Houghton's sports are Class C in the Michigan High School Athletic Association, and often excel. The Varsity Girls' Basketball team won the 2005 state championship, and was a semifinalist in 2006, while the Varsity Boys' Basketball team was a quarter-finalist in 2007. Football, volleyball, cross country, swimming, diving, ice hockey, track and field, softball, and Alpine skiing are also competitive sports.

Extracurriculars are a particularly strong suit at Houghton. The drama department has put on multiple productions nearly every year for over a decade, including Playing For Time by Arthur Miller, and The Curious Savage by John Patrick. A Model UN club is also in existence, as well as a school newspaper, a yearbook, a National Honors Society chapter, Debate Club, Junior Statesmen of America chapter, and a powerful Quiz Bowl team who took second place in last year's Class C state finals and won Class C state championships in 1996, 1997, and 1998.

The school mascot is the Gremlin, and the school colors are orange and black.
