Ashutosh Mukherjee (writer)

Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay ( _bn. আশুতোষ মুখোপাধ্যায়, anglicised spelling of surname: Mukherjee ) was one among the more prominent writers of modern Bengali literature. He was born in 1920 at Bajrajogini, Dacca (now Dhaka). Father's name: Paresh Chandra Mukhopadhyay. Education: Graduated in commerce from Hooghly Mohsin College. His first story was "Nurse Mitra", published in the newspaper [http://www.calcuttaweb.com/newspapers.shtml Basumati] , which was later made into major movies (Deep Jwele Jai in Bengali and Khamoshi in Hindi). His first novel was "Swaha", also published in "Basumati" and later renamed as "Ruper Hate Bikikini".
He joined the newspaper [https://rni.nic.in/latest/title1.asp Jugantar] in 1955 and subsequently became the head of the Sunday special of the newspaper. He died in 1989.
Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay was one of the most cinematised authors of Bengali literature. Some of the movies made from his stories and novels are listed below.
