Muhammad Natsir (July 17, 1908March 14, 1993) was an Indonesian politician, ulama, and is considered an influential 20th century Indonesian thinker (Based on Tempo magazine, 2000th new years special edition). He was also as Indonesian prime minister and founder of Masyumi Islamic political party.

Early life

Muhammad Natsir was born on July 17, 1908 on Alahan Panjang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. His father as a Dutch Indies government employee and the grandfather as ulama in his hometown. His parents was descended from Maninjau, part of Minangkabau ethnic group.

At an early age, Natsir was received two education system. Western system in HIS Solok and Islamic system at his secondary education in Pesantren that lead by Haji Rasul followers. On 1923, Natsir received the scholarship from MULO, Padang, and completed his formal education in AMS, Bandung. In Bandung, Natsir learned of Islam to Ahmad Hassan and joined to Persatuan Islam. Political career

In 1946-1949, he appointed as Indonesian government minister under Syahrir I cabinet until Hatta cabinet. In 1950, He choose as prime minister of Indonesia from September 5 1950 to April 26 1951 from Masyumi Party.
