Thomas John Wright was a first class cricketer who played one match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1919, the first year after the Great War. He was born on the 5th of March 1900 in North Ormesby near Middlesbrough which was in Yorkshire at the time. Aged only 19 he scored 12 runs in his only innings and did not bowl.
The 2 day first class match, against Cambridge University at Fenners, was drawn in remarkable circumstances. Cambridge were bowled out by Blackburn and Smith for just 170, with Yorkshire piling up 383 in reply, including Wright's 12 at number 6. Cambridge rallied to post an even 300, thanks to Ashton's 92, setting Yorkshire 87 to win. Wilfred Rhodes and Percy Holmes could muster only 80 runs in the 28 overs bowled before the game was drawn, but Yorkshire did not lose a wicket in the 'chase'.
