- Hans M. Heybroek
Dr Hans M. Heybroek is a Dutch botanist best known for his researches into the genus "Ulmus". Director of the Dorschkamp Research Institute for Forestry & Landscape Planning from
1954 until his retirement in1992 , he was responsible for the raising and release of numerous elm hybridcultivars , notably Columella. Before he took charge of the institute, Heybroek investigated the Coral Spot fungus "Nectria cinnabarina " in elm. In1960 he travelled to theKashmir withRonald Melville to search for a frost-hardy form of the Himalayan Elm "Ulmus wallichiana " as a source of anti-fungal genes, for use in the Dutch elm research programme.Publications
