When Wish Replaces Thought

When Wish Replaces Thought

"When Wish Replaces Thought" is a book by Steven Goldberg published by Promethius Books in 1991. The inside flap says,

"Because Goldberg addresses widely held but erroneous beliefs with an energetic logic rarely found in writings on this subject, this volume is a refreshingly direct response to our 'politically correct' times."

Goldberg is an important writer for many reasons, including historical reasons. He challenged his own generation of academics to accept scientific facts, even when they are politically unpopular. In his later book "Fads and Fallacies in the Social Sciences", he reiterates the commitment to academic integrity as his first concern. Goldberg does make moral comment, not simply scientific observation; but he restricted such comment to academic ethics and scrutinizing his own academic discipline.
