José Pereira

José Pereira (born Torres Vedras, 15 September 1931) was a Portuguese goalkeeper. He is mostly remembered for being the World Cup 1966 goalkeeper in all but one games.

He played for Belenenses, from 1954/55 to 1966/67. He earned 11 caps for Portugal National Team. His debut, aged 33, was in the 1-0 win over Turkey, on 19 April 1965, for the World Cup qualifying games. Rival, Lisbon goalkeeper, Joaquim Carvalho played the first game in the World Cup finals, a 3-1 win over Hungary. José Pereira was chosen to play the other five games of the great campaign Portugal had, finishing in third place. After the World Cup finals, his last game was the 1-2 defeat to Sweden, on 13 September 1966, for the European Championship qualifiers.
