Pauline Armitage is a former
politician inNorthern Ireland .Based in
Coleraine , Armitage joined theYoung Unionists in 1969. She served in theUlster Defence Regiment before being elected toColeraine Borough Council for theUlster Unionist Party (UUP) in 1985. She served as theMayor of Coleraine from 1995 - 97.In 1998, Armitage was elected to the
Northern Ireland Assembly , representing East Londonderry. In this session of the Assembly, she occasionally voted against theparty line , supporting aDemocratic Unionist Party motion forSinn Féin MLAs to be excluded from the Executive. In November 2001, she was suspended from the UUP, at the same time thatPeter Weir was expelled from the party, after the two voted against party leaderDavid Trimble 's re-appointment as First Minister.
