To My Daughter with Love on the Important Things in Life

To My Daughter With Love on the Important Things in Life is a book of poetry written by the American poet of love Susan Polis Schutz, dedicated to her daughter, Jordanna Polis Schutz. The first edition of the book was published in 1986. Stephen Schutz, Susan's husband and Jordanna's father, designed and illustrated it. Currently, the book is at its 2007 edition.

The Book

In her book, Susan expressed her deepest love to Jordanna, while teaching her daughter how to be a woman and the important things in a woman's life. In the introduction of the book (1986), Susan explained that she cannot protect Jordanna from the difficulties of life forever despite of her urge to be really protective, so she'd decided to use poetry----but most importantly, her maternal love and Jordanna's own love potential----to empower Jordanna to be a successful woman in life.

The poetry focuses on many things----love, womanhood, life, family, friendship, personal potential and uniqueness, life's happiness and fullness, optimism, etc. The central unifying theme of the book is love. Sending the message to Jordanna from the deepest depth of her heart, Susan masterfully and beautifully demonstrated that the love force is where life comes from, and with love a person is able to succeed in life and live happily and fully, at the same time bring joy to others. Susan repeatedly expressed her love and the importance of love throughout the book, adding thoughtful comments to the poems with her own writing to make sure that her daughter really understands.

Susan updated the book as Jordanna grew older and made passage into the adulthood, and the book remained popular with new poems as well as the old ones.
