Heavy metal band based in Mount Vernon, New York. They are currently represented bySeventh Level Records , and have played several shows in the NYC / Westchester, NY area.History
Infinite System started playing in March 2004 under the name, "Something Wicked," in a basement in Mt. Vernon, NY. It started with friends Dave Cohen and Mark Usurin, and when Dave called Steve Barboza to jam, the initial lineup was complete. They started out by jamming on different songs written by Mark and Steve, something that would evolve into a unique style in the future. The band practiced consistently for a long time without a bass player. It was becoming difficult for the band because they felt that they were ready to start performing at bars and clubs, but felt they should wait until they found a bassist to complete the lineup and have a fuller sound. In November 2004, the original three went in to a recording studio to produce a demo CD consisting of 5 original tracks: Fire Gods, Human Race, Empty Treasure, Filled, and an Instrumental track (now titled "Something Wicked").
For the first two years, Something Wicked searched for a bass player. Posting ad after ad, the band was not able to find who they were looking for. Seeing no positive results, they recruited a good friend (who in the meantime had his own band as well) to fill in on bass for the purpose of playing shows. Without a permanent bass player, they were able to play such legendary NYC clubs as CBGB's and The Continental. Things were going quite well for the unknown band, until their fill-in bassist went away to school, thus making it impossible for him to help the band anymore. The guys felt that they were not going to be able to take the next logical step in their musical endeavors until they found a permanent bassist, which was also affecting their overall happiness with the band. With tensions mounting and time becoming a factor, the re-posting of classified ads would continue, this time at an even more frantic pace.Something Wicked got a big break in April 2006, when Luke Sheridan saw their ad posted on an online bulletin board and wrote to them. The band set up an audition, liked what they heard, and, after two years of searching, they had found the bass player they needed.
The band traveled to a Queens, NY night club to debut their new lineup. They also played several open mic nights and shows a local bar in Hawthorne, NY and are slowly gaining a substantial following. They are now represented by a local independent record label, Seventh Level Records, which prompted the band name change to Infinite System due to legal issues.
Fast Forward to 2008 - Early 2008 saw the departure of long-time bassist Luke Sheridan. The job was given to friend and bassist for legendary punk-metal band Leviathan, Chris Gardiner. The band is currently writing and rehearsing new songs, while still keeping a steady schedules of shows in the northeast.
The Sound
Infinite System's style engulfs several different aspects of rock and metal. Mark and Steve come from similar backgrounds in taste and style as far as listening to music, yet have completely different songwriting styles. Steve always wrote songs with the intention of being instrumental, therefore they are more guitar-driven and metal-riff oriented. His writing is more inspired by some of the great metal bands such as: Metallica, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath. Mark has always written more traditional 'complete' songs, with lyrics and music in the style of bands such as Pearl Jam. Every IS song has a touch of each other's personal style and ability, but still remains true to the writer's original ideas. Due to each member having such a distinctly separate writing style, the songs by Infinite System can either be soft, heavy, fast, slow, or all of the above, encompassing a wide range of musical keys.
