Udayagiri is a Mandal and Thaluka and a Mandal in
Nellore districtin the state of Andhra Pradeshin India. [cite web

Udayagiri is located at coord|14.8667|N|79.3167|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/2/Udayagiri.html Falling Rain Genomics.Udayagiri] ] It has an average elevation of 230 meters (757 feet).
First known history of the city was from 14th century. It was the capital of local kingdom of Langula Gajapati, chieftain to
Gajapatisof Orissa. It came under rule of Krishna Deva Rayaof Vijayanagaraaround 1512. Fort was inaccessible on most sides. It could be only penetrated on a jungle track in east side and a pathway on west side. The siege lasted for an year and resulted in loss for Prataparudra of Gajapatis.
During the reign of
Gajapatisand Vijayanagara Empire, the fort was extended. The entire city and the surrounding hill of 1000 feet height were circled with walls. Fort consisted of thirteen buildings, eight on the hill and five below. It also consisted of several temples and gardens.
After the fall of
Vijayanagara Empire, it was ruled by chieftains of Golcondarulers. The mosque on top of the hill has two Persian inscriptions that credits the construction of mosque and planting a near by garden to Shaik Husain, chieftain to Sultan Abdullah of Golconda. Then it came under the Nawabs of Arcot, who granted it to Mustafa Ali Khan as Jagir. His descendants controlled it till 1839, till they were deported by Nawabs again to Chengalputfor their treason.

It is located 96km from
Nellore. The best way to reach the place is on road. Several buses run daily from other nearby major places, Kavali, Nellore, Atmakurand Duttaluru. Nearest railway station is located at Kavali, 50 miles east of Udayagiri.
It was historical important city, but lost its glory to small village. The hill on which the fort lies rises to a height from 1000 ft to 3079 ft. above the mean sea level. It covers an area of seven miles. Ruined walls on the west side hill are still visible. There are many remains of tombs, temples, and palaces inside the walls.
People speak predominantly
Teluguand wear traditional south Indian dresses like Saree, Lungiand Dhoti. The village people mostly follow Hinduand Muslimreligions.
People celebrate regular religious festivals like
Dasaraand Diwali. They also celebrate the ShaktiJataras of local dieties.
* Sri Adavi Perantalmma Jatara: Sri Adavi Perantalamma temple is in Gaddamvaripalli, 10km away from Udayagiri. Festival will be held in june for five days in every year.
* Sri Vengamamba Jatara: Sri Vengamamba temple is in Narawada, 25km away from Udayagiri. Festival at Vengamamba temple starts on the following Sunday right after the Perantalamma celebrations.
