Swami Shambhavananda (1894-1972) was an Indian
Hindu monk who pioneered beekeeping inKodagu and secondary education inMysore .Born in Halugunda village of
Kodagu as Chengappa, Shambhavananda joined the Ramakrishna Order at itsBangalore centre in 1917. He was an initiated disciple of Swami Brahmananda and ordained intosannyas in 1924. Kodagu Shambhavananda is renowned for his effort to eradicatemalaria . Singing "solle paata" ("song of the mosquito") inKodava Takk in the 1930s and 1940s, he walked from village to village to educate illiterate citizens about the cause and eradication of malaria.Fact|date=August 2008Shambhavananda pioneered modern beekeeping in
