Horndean Technology College Bands

There are many types of bands in Horndean Technology College.
* Horndean Swing Band
* Horndean Steel Pans
* Brass Ensemble (also know as BrassCake)
* Woodwind Ensemble

Extra curricular music is very popular with yearly productions, an annual summer concert as well as the Swing Band, Steel Pans , Brass Ensemble, Vocal Group, Woodwind Society and other projects in the pipe line. [Information Found on [http://www.horndeantc.hants.sch.uk/musicindex.htm] ]

The music department have many bands. The main two are The Horndean Swing Band and the Horndean Steel Pans. They have played at main events such as Merchiston Hall Fete; The Classic Cars Show in Waterlooville and the Proms put on by the Horndean Twinning for the guests from Horndean's twinned town, Aubergenville. Besides these, there are smaller bands such as the Brass Ensemble,who entered the Portsmouth Music Festival and came first in their class, and the Woodwind Ensemble who have won the Woodwind Ensemble Cup with Distinction in their class at the Portsmouth Music Festival 2007. Since 2003, the horndean swing band have been playing swing music for most main school events, such as 'The Proms' twinning concerts, open evenings and assemblies, as well as higher profile events such as The Waterlooville Classic Cars Show, Waterlooville Music Festival and in February 2007, they will be performing at Havant Arts Centre Performing Arts Evening. They perform a wide variety of big band based music, some favourites being the Herbie Hancock Medley ("Chameleon", "Watermelon Man", and "Cantaloupe Island"), Glenn Miller's classic 'In The Mood', and the flute solo 'Swinging (Mr) Shepherd Blues'. They have also played for the past three shows put on by the schools Drama, Music and Performing Arts departments, in 2004 "Crazy Capers, Dodgy Deals", in 2005 "Alice - The Musical" , "Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (although a slightly smaller group of just 9 played, as the music was less big-band orientated, all were members, or honorary members of HSB), to great success and most recently "Jesus Christ Superstar" With all its huge fan fairs to subtle solos, a real challenge; pulled off to great effect.
