Brian Wicklow

Brian Wicklow

Brian Wicklow is a fictional character portrayed by Matthew Kelly in two 90-minute ITV1 dramas; "Cold Blood" (2005) and "Cold Blood II" (2007). A three part series aired from 20th June, 2007 - 4th July, 2007. It co-stars John Hannah as Wicklow's ex-cellmate, Jake Osbourne, who was serving time in prison time for the brutal murders of his wife and her policeman lover. His insight gives the police a window into Wicklow's warped and sick mind. The final episode aried recently, and focused on the search for a kidnapped baby, juxtaposed with the story of Wicklow's terminal illness.

Overview

Brian Wicklow is a sadistic and highly intelligent serial killer, serving life in prison for the murders of eight women. His final murder was turned on its head when the woman's infant daughter interrupted him, and he ended up killing her too, reluctantly breaking from his well planned "modus operandi".

Little is revealed about his past or childhood throughout the series. However, we do find out that he was abused by his older sister, and it was this that inspired his misogynistic killing spree. The premise of "Cold Blood II" is based around his plan for revenge against her.

He also has a peculiar relationship with D.S Eve Granger (Jemma Redgrave), an ambitious policewoman and single mother, who interviewed him in the first film. In succeeding episodes, he grows envious when he found out that she had slept with Jake Osbourne, and tried turning her against him.

Cold Blood

In the first "Cold Blood", the police have launched an investigation into where Brian Wicklow has hidden the body of the little girl he killed, and systematically manipulates them. Meanwhile, his old cellmate Jake Osbourne reluctantly agrees to help work out Wicklow's psyche.

Cold Blood II

Brian Wicklow walks into a cell one day and seemingly murders one of the prisoners, before savagely beating the other into a bloody pulp. Brian then manipulates the surviving man into kidnapping and torturing his sister, so he can pay her back for the abuse she inflicted on him as a child.

TV series

A new three-part series was brought out in 2007, that abandoned the previous two part psychological thriller format, and tried turning it into a police procedural. Wicklow only appears briefly in episode 1 when he is stabbed in the prison showers, and subsequently found out he is dying of cancer.

Dead and Buried

A man is blown up during an army training exercise. During the post mortem, it is discovered that there is the remains of a women there as well, and they later find the body of a man in the local river who is found to be another victim.
