Tom Kyte (journalist)

Tom Kyte is a writer and journalist. Kyte was born June 4,1947 in Colliers Wood, South London, son of a leather worker and a housewife. A year after Kyte's birth the family moved to a council house in Mitcham Surrey. He attended state primary and secondary schools in the local area.

Career

Kyte left school at the age of 16 to work in the Inland Revenue. Two years later he joined the Financial Times where he was responsible for calculating investment statistics for all the stocks listed on the newspaper's prices page.

He began his journalistic career at aged twenty three specialising in writing investment comment and features. He subsequently joined the Daily Telegraph where he wrote the newspaper's daily investment advice column. In 1986 he moved on to assist in the launch of The Independent, of which he later became City Editor. During his time as a columnist Kyte wrote on major City deals, including IPO's, take-overs and even bankruptcies.

After twenty years in financial journalism, Kyte became a partner in [http://www.brunswickgroup.com Brunswick Group] , a fledgling public relations company, helping it to develop into the leading London financial public relations consultancy. Drawing on his journalist background, he advised dozens of companies on their relations with the media.

Now operating as a freelance writer and author, Kyte concentrates on novels, short stories and screenplays.His first novel "I Rifle Tubs at Sea", takes a satirical poke at journalism and public relations through the eyes of a disillusioned hack who moves to and fro between the two worlds. His second novel, "Funny Business", tells the comic story of a public relations executive who is a compulsive liar, but who is eventually compelled by circumstances to tell the truth.
