Lieutenant General Peter Francis Leahy AC is the former Chief of theAustralian Army . His appointment ended 3 July 2008, at which time he retired from theAustralian Defence Force .Leahy was born in
Melbourne in 1952 and graduated from theRoyal Military College, Duntroon in 1972. After serving in various operational and training roles in Australia, Hong Kong and the United States, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Chief of Army on28 June 2002 . He was reappointed for a further three years on29 June 2005 .In 1995, Leahy was appointed a
Member of the Order of Australia (AM), and in 2002 was upgraded to Officer (AO).
