municipality in Kachchh district in the state ofGujarat ,India . It was established byRao Hamirji in 1510 and was made the state capital byRao Khengarji I in 1549. Presently, it is the district headquarter of the Kachchh ditrict, the second largest district in India. Bhuj is home to one of the firstSwaminarayan Sampraday Temples which was built on Vikram SavantVaisakha Sud 5th, 1879 (approx. 1822 in the Gregorian calendar).In January 2001, the city was struck by a major earthquake which caused a great deal of damage to the city.

Bhuj has an average elevation of 110
metre s (360 feet). On the eastern side of the town is a hill known as Bhujiyo that separates Bhuj and Madhapar village. It has one big lake named Hamirsar and several small lakes.The old town was surrounded by the fort, which had five major gates and one small gate known as "bari" (which means window). Much of the fort wall has fallen down due to recurring earth-quakes in the region.

Ahmedabad ,Mumbai ,Delhi and other major cities of India by trains. It has a domestic airport from where daily flights operate to Mumbai. It is also connected toMadhapar , a wealthy town close to Bhuj city centre, through a network of small roads and new highways.Education

Culture
Bhuj is a famous destination for shopping of handicraft work. Artists of nearby villages bring their art work for sale in Bhuj. Important landmarks for people wishing to study and know more about kutchi embroidery are Shrujan, Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan (KMVS), Kalaraksha and Women Artisans' Marketing Agency (WAMA).
